Book: The Unbearable Lightness of Scones

I'm finding myself having an unsustainable feast of Alexander McCall Smith books. Now, I've read the fifth book of the "44 Scotland Street" series: "The Unbearable Lightness of Scones". And I enjoy it so much that I feel sorry for having one less unread book to read...

And as usual, it's quite difficult to pinpoint what I enjoy so much. One simple thing is that it is not a simple-minded, linear book in which everything has a beginning and an end. It is a portrait of a city and a portrait of real lives of people, all having their ups and downs, not stories with gigantic climaxes. And I like the people very much, and their small and somewhat larger problems.

And the humour, of course. Some of the situations that are conjured up, are absolutely hilarious.

And I take comfort in knowing that I still haven't read a single book in his "Portugese Irregular Verbs" series...
